JPS has also been awarded a variety of distinctions that recognize our commitment to patient care and the team member experience.


Accreditations and Designations

American College of Surgeons

JPS Health Network was the first and is the only Level I Trauma Center serving Tarrant County as recognized by the American College of Surgeons. It is one of only three Level I Trauma Centers west of I-35 in Texas.

joint commissionWhen a heart attack happens, rapid treatment is critical.  JPS has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Acute Myocardial Infarction Certification – a symbol of quality that reflects the organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care that includes compliance with national standards, effective use of evidence-based guidelines to optimize care, and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.

Commission on Cancer

JPS offers inpatient hospital care at John Peter Smith Hospital and a dedicated outpatient clinic and infusion center at the JPS Center for Care. The cancer program achieved accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer in 2012.

DNV-GL Approval Seal

As an acute care hospital, we understand the importance of offering the full range of emergency care services. JPS is a DNV-GL Comprehensive Stroke Center offering the best chance at recovery for our community.

Breastfeeding Champion

Our team members enable us to provide the best care possible for our community. We value their contributions and strive to create an environment that supports their lifestyle and health choices. That is why JPS has worked to achieve a Mother Friendly Worksite designation. We provide 24/7 lactation support in addition to lactation rooms on-site at the main campus and portable lactation kits for the community-based clinics.


NICHEJPS has been awarded NICHE designation, becoming the first public hospital in North Texas committed to a national campaign to elevate quality of care for older adults. NICHE designation is the latest in a growing list of initiatives under way at JPS to expand services and improve care for the rapidly growing population of older adults in Tarrant County.

JPS Health Network has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR.) In addition to mandatory accreditation, Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence go on to earn accreditation in all of the American College of Radiology’s voluntary breast imaging accreditation programs, including stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and breast MRI. 

joint commissionJPS holds The Joint Commission certification in treatment of sepsis, making JPS the only public hospital in the United States to hold certifications in trauma, stroke, heart attack and sepsis, leading causes of death and disability. Between 28 and 50 percent of people who get sepsis will die, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.


Best Hospital IT Departments 2013

JPS was selected by Healthcare IT News as a Best Hospital IT Department. Our Information Technology team supports a network with more than 40 locations including three hospital buildings, clinics and two professional buildings. With more than 6,000 users, they keep JPS functioning at maximum capacity 24/7.

Fit-Friendly Worksite Platinum Achievement 2013

The health and wellness of our team members is a top priority. That’s why we offer a team member wellness program, on-site exercise classes, discounts to health and fitness vendors and an on-site employee health clinic. JPS received Platinum Level recognition from the American Heart Association as a Fit-Friendly Worksite.

2015 Commitment to Excellence AwardThe Press Ganey Commitment to Excellence Award is given to the organization with the highest overall improvement score for employee engagement. This is the first recognition of this kind for JPS Health Network.

For the second year in a row, JPS has been named among the region’s best places to work, climbing into the top quartile on The Dallas Morning News Top 100 Places to Work 2017. The annual selection of best places to work is based on the results of a survey administered to employees of hundreds of companies nominated for the award. The contest covers 10 North Texas Counties.
